Dis-location
For many people navigation is the GPS. Take it away and there is no awareness of location, distance, or direction. There is no longer a planning of a route or the building of an internal conceptual map of waypoints on a new journey. We have been deskilled. Also, even with such planning anyone familiar with over-riding the confident directions emanating from the GPS system or application will know this requires some mental effort to do so. The assumption is that somehow it must be always be right. Even when it is about to take you considerably ‘off piste’ for it has computed a ‘shorter’ route. Indeed with the advent of the electric car the GPS with updated data is an essential tool in identifying charging points on a route.
