Dada de Dada aims to be an equal opportunities satirist. The only bias being against fundamentalist ideologues of whatever persuasion. For in the certainties, myths and stories they sell, they so often stoke the fires of discontent and disunity and focus a lens on ‘the other’ as the cause of all problems. There are always victims of that process. See also the Dada de Dada ‘About‘ page.

Verse
Its hunger is insatiable
this Beast of Expectation
Fed junk-food promises
by leaders of the nation
Beastβs girth then so inflates
its demands rise even more
Yet none dare tell the truth
lest hell burst through the door
So golden futures are promised
for delivery on undetermined date
Or itβs given another lie injection
thinning more the ice they skate
This Beast of Expectation
The politicianβs voracious pet
Its cage stores disappointments
of those promises never met
Till one day the Beast escapes
Seeks souls of those it blames
They that failed to manage it
perish first in dragonβs flames.
About
The Beast of Expectation was originally written in the UK in 2017 at a time the Brexit brouhaha provided a golden opportunity for populist politicians (or wannabe politicians) to stoke the fires of division like never before. Meanwhile, in the US their own Beast of Expectation had mutated into an even more dangerous form. The Beast, however, has an insatiable appetite and when fed demands ever more. It is perhaps worth a moment’s reflection that the Beast is not the politicians although the form and function of the Beast is at times influenced or manipulated by them. Politicians may persuade themselves that they can actually control the Beast but that, as history repeatedly shows, leads to hubris eventually having an appointment with nemesis.
