About
The underlying theme of Struggle in the Labyrinth is the yin and yang influences of our emotions and our intellect upon the decisions we all make throughout our lives.
The theme was also a useful vehicle for experimenting with ChatGPT 4 the latest iteration of OpenAI’s artificial intelligence models. The output of ChatGPT4 rather usefully automatically now links to OpenAI’s other AI product, the image generator DALL-E 3. Basically what I did here was use each verse of the poem to construct a prompt for input into ChatGPT 4, e.g. ‘Create an image representing the following verse from a poem about the lifetime struggle between emotions and intellect … (pasted sample verse)’. Alternatively, I could have asked ChatGPT to just produce a text specification of a proposed image prompt which I could then edit before entry back into ChatGPT.
I hand crafted the first draft of the poem using my own neurones rather relying on ChatGPT but then prompted ChatGPT using both the theme and sometimes the verse. I would’t have used the verse it output but it did prompt me in directions I might not otherwise have gone down. So I would argue ChatGPT amplified or enhanced what I was doing rather than replaced what I had done. So no copy and paste just improved production and haste. The DALL_E images are another mattter. They were all AI generated using my verses as prompts.
AI research and development are worth serious attention and are going to impact upon every aspect our lives. Such impacts should not be underestimated and will not be limited to technical fields. Arts and culture will feel the black hole pull just as strongly so its better to learn how to surf the wave before the wave washes over us.
